Dance is Resistance

Hello~~ Today I will talk about my favorite type of dance, Voguing or Vogue.

First, I will explain what's it about. Voguing is a highly stilized, modern house dance originating in 1960's for the Harlem ballroom scene, and underground LGBTQ community in united state compossed mainly by black people in marginality conditions. In the ball while the people were dancing they were inspired in the famous poses models of vogue magazines, forming choreographics whit angular, linear, and rigid arm, leg and body movement. Creating a particular and stylized new dance with actually, three distinct styles of vogue: Old way (pre-1990), New way (post-1990), and Vogue fem (circa 1995).

In the Ball people form groups knows as Houses to participate in performances and drag or dance  competitions. The houses are very important because the serve as alternative family that gives a safe space with mothers and fathers, providing guidance, support and affection for their house childrens.

The Voguing is something very important to me because it represent the power and resistance of the marginality LGBTQ community like black, trans, queer people, womens and also poor sectors. Is a way to express yourself and feeling protected, safe and accepted even if it's a little time while you enjoy with other people like you. For this reason is very necessary to continue practicing and resisting.
